The Lethbridge Police Run

The Lethbridge Police and locals braved the elements to raise money for a good cause.

Saturday morning proved to be a cold and rainy day for the sixth annual Lethbridge Police Run.

The run raised money in support of the Alberta Special Olympics and had over 500 competitors participate in the half-marathon, 10 km and 5 km races.

Cash prizes were given to first, second and third place winners for the half marathon winners and non-cash prizes were given to the 10 km and 5km racers.

Prizes weren’t the only thing that was offered for participants. Massage services by Lethbridge College students were available at the finish line.

Contestants from all over Alberta participated. Al Dmytryshyn works in Lloydminster in the RCMP’s forensic department but began his career in Lethbridge.

“I got my law enforcement degree here [in Lethbridge] and I then I got into the RCMP. I had a short stint as a wildlife officer, but I went into more of the RCMP side of things after,” said Dmytryshyn, “it’s my old city. I love Lethbridge.”

Local supporters were also in attendance. Ashley Raye Miles is a personal trainer at Kinetic Indoor Cycle and Fitness in Lethbridge and led the warmup for the participants.

“The head organizer contacted my boss Sandra at Kinetic indoor cycle. She asked me If I wanted to take part in the warmup and I said heck yes,” said Miles.

Registration for the next Lethbridge Police Run will start in May of 2019.
