The Lethbridge College Students Association has been voted in for the 2011/2012 school year.
Alexandra Kulas is the new LCSA president, Brandon McNally is the vice-president of student life and Rob Broadhead is the vice-president of finance.
Kulas says she was nervous about running for the position but had experience on a student’s council in her hometown of Claresholm and wanted to be a part of the student government.
“I then saw the position for student rep open in January and so I thought I would try and ended up getting the position,” says Kulas.
Student rep was only the beginning for Kulas.
“I just thought ‘OK, maybe I should try and see how it goes’ and ended up running for president and I won,” added Kulas.
McNally says he wasn’t too sure what he was getting himself into.
“I heard about VP student life and this is my first semester here at the college and I wasn’t really sure if I was getting into something quick,” says McNally.
“But I am really looking forward to getting in there and changing things as well as establish things that I can learn from this experience and learn from the people I get to work with. I love doing events like this already and I grew up helping people plan events and working with people in general about different issues.
“I have had a lot of experience in working in different areas and I have learned through volunteer experience and in order to see things change you have to take the active and role in doing it.”
Broadhead was confident and had lots of preparation before the election.
“I am always chatting with students. Being a student rep helped me obtain the position because people already recognized me and also being a librarian assistant, people see my face all the time. Someone told me the other day that I was Mr. Campus,” says Broadhead.
All three of the new executives already have been thinking up different goals and events that they want to see around the college.
“I have a lot of ideas in terms of activities,” says Kulas. “Brandon McNally and I have a couple things up our sleeves. We want to get our name out there.”
Broadhead has a few ideas himself.
“I think that when I was student rep I came in and didn’t really have a vision of what I wanted to do. So now what I want to do with the VP student life and the president, is take my time and get to know them so that we can create a vision on how we can meet students and understand what the students really want so that we can make changes for them and not just for our own agendas,” says Broadhead.
McNally has new ideas but he also wants to keep some of the events that went on this past year.
“Next year I want to see more involvement in the clubs we have at the college. There is lots going on and people don’t know about the diversity in clubs that we do. I really want to work a lot with the clubs and see if we can do more events together. I look forward to continuing things like band wars and frosh week as well,” said McNally.
A total of 420 people participated in the voting which is a 10.9 per cent voter turnout.
