Top dogs in Lethbridge

The Lethbridge and District Kennel Club was barking on Nov. 19 and 20 with dogs of all breeds and sizes competing to become the top dog.

The LDKC is a non-profit organization made up of dog fanciers for the promotion and advancement of purebred dogs under the guidelines of the Canadian Kennel Club.

Andrea Knibbs, secretary of the LDKC, says there was a wide range of dogs competing at this event.

“The Lethbridge and District Kennel Club has been putting on dog shows probably since 1962,” says Knibbs.

Knibbs said the weekend had around 350 confirmation dogs and 50- 60 obedience dogs registered in the event.

“Despite the weather we managed to have lots of people come down here and participate and enjoy the shows so it’s been fun so far,” said Knibbs.

The LDKC provides assistance in choosing the appropriate dog breed according to the owner’s lifestyle and personality.

They support local animal-related organizations with information and donations.

Lisa Stasuik, a competitor in the event, said she has been in the show since 1992.

“Other than dogs I have showed cats and rabbits,” said Stasuik.

“We go all over, we have been in the states and we show primarily in the prairies. We have gone to Ontario and B.C. and every year we go down to Kentucky for the Pom Nationals.”
