Top Ten Weekly: Top ten one-hit wonders

You know those songs that always seem to find their way into your head and never seem to leave? Or how about those songs you’ve heard for a certain amount of time but then never hear again? This week it’s Top 10 one-hit-wonders.

10. The Final Countdown – Europe. The beginning of this song screams epic pump-up music. I feel like I could conquer the world. OK, maybe not that far, but it’s still a good song.

 9. I’m too Sexy – Right Said Fred. I’ve never seen the video of this song but enough parodies to make me not want to see it.

8. Blue – Eiffel 65. This is one song I find constantly stuck in my head and is on my favourites list on my iPod.

7. Operator- Shiloh . This one is a little newer and the moral is to be yourself and be unique. But the entire time I watched this video, I thought of the early Avril Lavigne. So much for originality.

6. Take on Me – A-ha. I still to this day think this video was great, the effects were awesome and the tune of the song just screams mid-‘80s.

5. Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-a-lot. Considering the age of this song, I’m surprised it plays at the bar as often as it does and how everyone knows every word. Am I the only one who’s doing homework while everyone else studies Sir-Mix-a-lot lyrics?

4. Macarena – Los Del Rio. I can guarantee that no one knows any words to this song, just the sound of the words.  I’ve sung it like 20 different ways while trying to remember the actions to avoid looking stupid. The irony here is mocking.

3. Mambo Number 5 – Lou Bega. The only reason I like this song is because my name is in it. Other than that, the catchy beat is the only good thing this song has to offer.

2. Who Let the Dogs Out – Baha Men. Forcing terrible lyrics on youth in the early 2000s. I’m not exactly sure why this song was so popular. Who was the genius who heard their dog barking and said “Hey, this would make a great song.”?

1. Kung fu Fighting – Foo Fighters. This song brought a whole new dance to the ‘90s where everyone would kick their legs in the air, punch the air around them and basically look like they knew how to do karate. Good try.

You may not know all these songs but chances are after reading this you will have the urge to search them up on Youtube. I’d recommend it because whether the songs are annoying or classic they are catchy. Next week, the last list of the year is Top 10 exam preparation strategies.
