Underdog Huskies keep the Trojans on their toes

Story by December Burgess

It was a battle of north verses south as the Keyano Huskies and the SAIT Trojans fight for the win during the second game of the ACAC Championship weekend.

Keyano College went into the tournament as the fourth in the north division, whereas the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology started off as the first in the south.

The Trojans took a slight but early lead in the game – the first two quarters starting off relatively slow as the athletes warmed up.

The southern team began the second half at 38 – 24.

Going into the third, both teams seemed to heat up after the break. Though SAIT slowly clawed their way forward, creating a larger gap between the two.

The Huskies barked back, looking to close the distance and take the win for themselves. The message was clear: they would not go down without a fight.

The fourth quarter was a back and forth of points received. The Trojans kept their lead, but the Huskies stayed strong in their momentum.

With a minute left on the clock, the Huskies closed the gap a bit to reach the score of 73 – 70.

Foul after foul followed these points, both teams aching for the opportunity to win. With an air of calculation, the two focussed on taking as many points as possible.

With seven seconds left in the game, the Huskies tied with the Trojans.

This meant overtime.

Point after point, SAIT and Keyano stayed neck in neck.

Very little time was left when a failed three pointer decided the fate of the game.

The Trojans stole the win at 82-81.
