Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been trusted by many Canadians since he was first elected in 2006. Since then he has tried to lay low.
When elected to his first term, Harper had plans for the country including economic management and stability. And yes, he did manage to get Canada out of our recession but the economy still lacks some stability.
He is a leader for our country but does not appear to have plans for the development of the country. What does this mean? Is he keeping his intentions secret so he can announce them in a federal election campaign? Is a federal election coming in the near future? According to political observers, the answer is a resounding yes.
According to Mcleans magazine, “He has a good shot at avoiding an election and, if he cannot avoid it, a good shot at winning it.” This statement may be true for now.
The “unofficial” election campaign has begun. Harper’s Conservatives have run attack ads against Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff who said the nastiness of those ads will be Harper’s legacy. Those ads have been deemed immature and childish. The other parties have launched their own attack ads. Do these ads represent the intellect of the people running our country?
Meanwhile, over in Egypt there are people rioting and demanding President Hosni Mubarak step down in order to have the democratic freedom that we as Canadians are beginning to take for granted.
So while our political parties pick fights with each other like children in a school yard, the rest of us can sit here awkwardly until it’s over while the rest of the world get their glimpse of the ugly side of Canadian politics.
