The Red Sox are the second Boston Franchise in the last two years to be caught cheating.
I have a beef with Boston sports franchises thinking the rules don’t apply to them. I have a beef with teams who believe cheating their way to victory is acceptable. That is why my beef lies with the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
There have been far too many times where the NFL has needed to discipline the New England Patriots for some kind of league violation. Whether it be deflating footballs or videoing the opposing team’s signals, the Patriots are the epitome of what a bunch of cheaters look like in the world of sports.
The most frustrating thing about the Patriots is that they are a good enough team that they don’t need to cheat. They could still be a top tier team without all of the extra shenanigans they think are necessary. Bill Belichick and the Patriots need to find a better way to bring in publicity and the best way to start is by just winning football games.
And then there’s the Red Sox.
The Sox recently were discovered to have been stealing pitch signals against the Yankees. For me, the beef isn’t with the fact the Red Sox stole signs. I mean, every team does it, but the fact they did it in such an obvious way by using Apple watches.
The Red Sox managed to be one of the first teams to have physical evidence of stealing signs. Most teams can manage to avoid being caught. There have been many teams in the past that have been accused of cheating this way, but there was no way to prove whether or not this was the case. The Red Sox made it too easy for Major League Baseball to prove they were sign stealing.
So, in conclusion, my beef could very easily be turned into a nice medium rare steak with lots of extra barbecue sauce if these two franchises would find a way to play their sports with a little bit of integrity and honesty.
