This week my beef lies with a simple body part: the knee.
The knee is something that has allowed people to live out their lives in freedom and happiness. But recently, the knee has been surrounded with backlash and protest. Over the past few weeks, many sports teams and athletes have kneeled during the U.S. national anthem.
This display of solidarity has been in protest of Donald Trump. Shocker, I know.
But this may be the only time in my life where I can say that, even to a small degree, I agree with the president. I mean, saying that NFL players should be fired for protesting this way is going a little too far, but at the same time, players should be able to find other ways to protest.
Kneeling during the anthem because you don’t like the president is sort of like throwing your plate of food on the kitchen floor because your mom made you beets and brussel sprouts for dinner. Sure, beets and brussel sprouts are two of the most disgusting foods on the planet, but throwing them on the ground won’t change what your dinner is that night.
In the same way, kneeling during an anthem won’t change who the president of the United States of America is. All it does is cause unnecessary turmoil that won’t actually change anything.
Besides, when we are younger, aren’t we taught to STAND UP for what we believe is wrong? Kneeling seems to be the exact opposite for me and a cop out way of saying there is an issue without actually addressing it.
Come on NFL, get off your knees and start using them to do your job.
