The staff and students at Wilson Middle School on Lethbridge’s north side will be seeing some huge changes very soon.
After a 10-year waiting period the school has been selected for modernization, undergoing some heavy renovations and major changes. The school will soon be able to take 150 more students.
The halls will become wider and there will be new classes offered.
Principle Dean Hawkins is excited and knows there will be a lot of work ahead. He says even though funding is coming in for the building, fundraisers for other school supplies are still needed.
“We are adding a sewing class, we need sewing machines. We are adding a dramatic arts theater, so the lighting and sound board and stuff but we have to provide all that. You’re looking at $350,000 in equipment we have to provide,” says Hawkins.
The roof of the school will also be lifted to add in windows for more lighting and a bigger common area.
While the project is set to take two years to complete, the staff and students are looking forward to the change.
