This afternoon Team Canada came out on top after winning against Team Germany 5-4 in draw 13 of the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.
Canada is currently number one in the standings with seven wins and two losses, followed by Korea and Sweden, both with six wins and two losses.
In the first half of the game Germany managed to take the lead, with a score of 3-1 after the fifth end. Canada was able to pull ahead in the sixth with an impressive three points.
Going into the 10th, Canada was leading 5-4 and also had the hammer advantage. Germany’s strategy in the 10th involved setting up guards close to the hog line. With a few takeout shots Canada was able to ensure a blank end and win the game, getting an enthusiastic response from the crowd, who rushed over to the Patch for a meet-and-greet with the team.
Draw 13 also saw a win for Team USA. They beat Team Russia 7-2 and are now in fifth, and Russia is eighth.
Denmark won against Switzerland, 7-4, putting them in seventh. Switzerland is currently fourth.
Team China and Team Scotland had a close game, tied 7-7 at the end of the 10th end. Scotland had the hammer going into the tie-breaking 11th, and managed to win 9-7.
