Charmed Playhouses offers Lethbridge College students practicum opportunity

Students at Lethbridge College have been given the opportunity to do a practicum with Charmed Playhouses. Charmed Playhouses is a playground equipment supplier located in Lethbridge.

The inspiration behind creating Charmed Playhouses was to give kids something enjoyable to play with.

Charmed Playhouses CEO and Founder, Tyson Leavitt says the practicum students have a fantastic experiential learning opportunity.

“So, it really just becomes an opportunity where we can select through those students who are there and start bringing them into our company to help make our company better.”

Interior design students work on sketch ideas and make floor plans. Architectural students make a model of the floor plans. Virtual Reality students work on creating an augmented experience for potential clients. For the students and the company, it’s a win-win.

Charmed Playhouses sees this partnership as a way to grow and expand as a company. Lethbridge College sees it as an opportunity to recruit students and gain respect as a post-secondary institution.

The college is confident its students are well prepared for their practicums.

“They have the skills, but they’ve never quite drawn something as fairy tale like as this will be.  They basically learn everything they need in our program and because they do this practicum at the end of their two years with us. They’re ready, yep, they’re very ready,” says Cherie Bowker, the Chair of Spatial Design Technologies at Lethbridge College.

Charmed Playhouses has a goal of creating five cottages by June 1. Currently, it has two and the third one is already a work in progress.
