Changes on the way for Lethbridge College Students’ Association

Lethbridge College’s Student Association’s (LCSA) student elections will wrap up today.

Elections for three positions are held each year, and there’s a lot of candidates for each.

Starting with the run for LCSA President, the three candidates are General Studies student Zachary Wigand, Digital Communications and Media (DCM) Stephanie Savage, and Arthur Torres, an international student in the Business program.

Savage says she’s hopeful for the opportunity, and that she’ll be able bring some energy to LCSA.

“I believe the job of the student government is to work for the students it serves. Too many times student governments act with little or no input from the student body.”

The other two positions students are campaigning for are as the V.P. of Student Life, and the V.P. of Finance and Operations.

Business student Taylor Noroski and Oumar Berthe in the Agriculture program are the two running for the Finance and Operations position, where they’ll look to handle all the financial aspects of the events the LCSA hosts throughout the year.

As for the V.P. of Student Life, the current V.P. Storm Liversuch says he’s been having students approach him for advice on the campaigning process.

“I play a bit of a mentorship roll for the candidates. A lot of individuals come to me when they have questions about the rolls and responsibilities of the executives.”

There are two people running for another DCM student Dominique Charles and Criminal Justice student Joshlyn Derosa.

Liversuch wants to remind all students that voting for who represent you through the next school year.

“A lot of people kind of underestimate it, these people sit on so many different committees and they are involved with so many things that impact the college, whether it be meeting with provincial MLAs or the minister of advanced education.”

Voting stations are open until the end of school hours on Friday and can be found in centre core, the cafeteria, the cousins building, and the IB building.
