Kodiaks soccer comes out of hibernation

By Sean Milan

Early success for the Kodiaks athletics department holds great promise for this year and years to come. With great feats and achievements in soccer, this year seems to be off to a great start.

Just this past week, the Kodiaks female soccer team qualified and travelled to the provincial Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference in Edmonton at the Jasper Place Bowl.

Todd Caughlin is the athletic director for the Kodiaks and is thrilled about their success this year even though they lost in the quarter finals to Concordia.

This is the first time in eight years that the female team has made it to the ACAC playoffs. The team’s hard work has really paid off, starting from such a poor history to making the playoffs.

“It’s pretty impressive for that jump,” said Caughlin.

He is happy with the hard work this team put in and is excited for next season.

Victoria Poitras of the women’s soccer team was selected to be a member of the ACAC All Conference team. Although this is just a fictional team of the best players in the league, it is a very high honour.

“It’s an honourable achievement,” said Caughlin.

Logan Tataryn was also selected from the men’s Kodiaks soccer team to join the ACAC men’s version of the team as well. This is a surprising and great acknowledgement for Logan due to the fact that the men’s soccer team didn’t make the playoffs this year.
