One man’s loss is another country’s gain

A lot of people talk the talk, but very few walk the walk.

According to Mike Pyne, the Liberal candidate for Lethbridge, that’s just what he did when he decided to join the race to Ottawa.

As the 2015 Federal Election wrapped up last night, it was clear that Pyne had lost his riding, but he couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

“Of course, I’d love to say that I won, but it just doesn’t matter. We have a majority liberal government and we’ve got the one politician in Canada who can unite this country under one banner,” he said

Brendon Pyne, son of the liberal candidate, said although his dad didn’t win, it’s ok, he couldn’t be happier.

“I’m really proud of my dad,” he said.

After the race was over and Rachel Harder was announced as victorious, Pyne offered his congratulations to all five of the candidates.

“It’s a hard job and it’s going to be a lot harder for the people that are in Ottawa… no pun intended,” he laughed.

Now that the Liberals are in power with a majority government, Pyne says they have ten years of wrong moves to reverse.

“The one thing the Liberal party talked about was immediate tax cut for the middle class, that’s one of the things we ran on,” Pyne said. “They’ve talked about an inquiry on the murdered and missing aboriginal women and they’ve committed to tabling new legislation to do away with first past the post balloting system.”

In the end, Pyne says he’s taking away a great experience and plans to stay involved.

“We ran a good fight, we had fun, I congratulate Rachel Harder, and I hope she does well in Ottawa.”
