Lethbridge College sorority club shares upcoming plans for the school year

Three members of the Delta Eta Iota sorority club sits near the LCSA at the Lethbridge College.

One Lethbridge College sorority club is aiming to recruit more members this fall.

The Delta Eta Iota Sorority prides itself as an inclusive organization that expresses themselves through their five pillars: leadership, friendship, mentorship, charity and academia. The club provides numerous benefits and opportunities for current and upcoming students at the college. However, due to the pandemic, the club hasn’t been able to follow through their usual recruiting.

Courtney Fried, the club’s treasurer and secretary says along with recruiting more members, they are also aiming to follow through with their planned events and fundraisers.

One of the events is rush, which is an event the club hosts yearly that consists of several activities such as game nights and information sessions.

“We’re hoping to have ‘rush’ depending on COVID protocols, so we’re trying to recruit some more girls and then they’ll go through our pledging period and then they become members, so that’s a really big thing for us,” explained Fried.

Fried also shares some of the club’s priorities and benefits.

“We take academic [grades] very seriously, so we track the girl’s GPA’s and we require study hours if their GPA gets too low, we also try to encourage the girls to take on leadership position such as chairs to get more involved in the sorority, which they can then put in their resumes when they’re applying for future jobs,” says Fried.

Club member Robyn Hinds says that she was able to have the opportunity to gain more friends and to become more of a leader and planner through joining the club.

“I mainly just plan things that I think would be interesting such as pumpkin carving or thanksgiving in November, so I just think of stuff that I’m already planning on doing, and we just do them all together,” says Hinds.

The club is still in the process of incorporating and applying things to current plans due to the newest COVID restrictions. More information and updates can be found on their Facebook page at Delta Eta Iota Sorority Beta Chapter.
